…depending on where you were raised I suppose
As a vegan I became a bigger donut lover than when I was a non-vegan – and it was the same with various pastries like croissants and other things like ice cream. Jo and I have come to the conclusion that it’s because, when we were pregan we could have those items anytime we wanted, and when the craving hit twice a year or so, the items were accessible. But when there’s not a mass market for vegan croissants (which I am working on creating, the croissant…not the market), and it’s been 4 or 5 years since you’ve had one..the craving can become overly intense and nothing else can satisfy, so you go nuts trying to make it yourself or buy an entire case of Nutrilicious donuts and eat them within a week’s time! But I feel I won’t have to purchase a case again because Nikki over at Vegan Verve has created such a deliciously evil baked vegan doughnut recipe!! I made them last night and baked them this morning, boy oh boy!! I can’t stop eating them!! So good with a light glazing (or heavy..no one’s here to judge) and a cup of tea! I highly recommend these to anyone who loves donuts, or doughnuts, or baking in general! The only differences between how I made them and her recipe is that I used vanilla Hemp milk instead of vanilla Soymilk, and I used a combo of bread flour and oat flour (for which she didn’t specify a flour, but I’m assuming she used all-purpose). The dough is super simple to make…what takes the longest is the waiting…And like Tom Petty says, “The waiting is the hardest part.” I have a feeling there will be some chocolate glazing tonight! So here’s a picturama of my glazed doughnut making experience
Mmm…yummy dough rising! Oh wait, and what’s this? Mmm…glaze…
Happy Baking!!

I haven’t had a donut (I don’t know which spelling to use!) in years. I am uber impressed by the rise you got from your dough! Great job!
Me too! Especially since I used bread and oat flour! I assume the bread flour helped with that part… Yeah, I don’t know which spelling is correct..maybe they both are. Either way, they taste great!
Wow!! I agree – donuts stopped being interesting for me when I was nine or ten year old, and for a while I didn’t even want to look at the suckers! A vegan donut, however… that’s totally different, especially a baked-not-fried one…
The only doughnuts (yeah, I am old fashioned) I ever had were in my pre-vegan days at dunkin’ donuts in Berlin and I was totally disgusted by their chemical taste. I always wanted to give them a second chance so thank you very much for the link and the recipe review!
I love your point about why you eat more desserts nowadays. It makes so much sense, especially as so many more vegan sweets keep coming on the market. I never liked desserts before, but I find myself eating them much more since being a vegan. I find them fascinating– the fact that there are so many types, that they taste so good, and that you truly don’t need the standby of eggs and milk to make good baked goods.
I’m SO glad you liked them!! I’m glad it wasn’t just me craving donuts that made them taste awesome! I don’t know which spelling is correct either….I seem to keep going back and forth….being from Philly, we spell it “donuts” although I do not know why lol. And you’re right, I didn’t specify flour. I just used AP, but as you’ve proven, others will work! Oh they look good…I want to go make some again….but I just made a other desserts

These doughnuts definitely saved the day during my 800 mile drive yesterday! Around 3 pm I started to get really bored with the driving and considered pulling over to take a nap (yeah, I nap a lot). But I then I remembered the doughnuts Sara packed for me and thought that a sugar rush would do the trick. And they did not disappoint! Very nice recipe VV!!
Aw, I kept Jo awake and therefore alive on the road….my donuts are lifesavers.
Nothing wrong with naps, I like ‘em myself. Especially driving 800 miles! I bet someone with 4 paws napped a lot, it just made you want to all the more huh
